They rarely appear in reality shows or advertisements. The do not cut albums every now and then. They generally shun publicity. Yet, they are among the very best in Sufi music in the country. 

Who  we are talking about? Well, it’s the brother combine, Wadali Brother. The duo is set to perform in Delhi to an applauding crowd.

The show popular for their song ‘Tu Manne Yaa Na Manne Dil Daara’, the duo has over the past few years experimented with Bollywood. But their domain remains Sufi and all their concerts are permeated with the Sufi spirit. They are known to pick liberally from all the staple Punjabi Sufi-Kaafi poets’ works.

To the Wadali Brothers their music is their prayer to the divine. They are quite clear that to sing Sufi you must have the ‘Sufi’ within. Bhakti is central to their existence, which is why they lead simple lives. They do not sing commercially and so have just a handful of recordings to their name. They continue to live in their ancestral home in Guru ki Wadali village in Amritsar district of Punjab. They are known to travel by train within the country. They are not comfortable using electronic gadgets in their music, and stress on ‘alap’ and ‘taans’. They believe that spiritual heights can only be attained if you sing unreservedly, in a free atmosphere.
